Pasta sales are soaring as more Britons tuck into Italian food.
Recipes launched by TV chefs like Jamie Oliver have boosted demand, according to market analyst Kantar Worldpanel who say pasta sales have surged 7.3 per cent to £385.7m in the past year.
UK households slurped their way through 196.2 million kilos of the stuff - forking out £28.2 million more on pasta than they did the previous year.
Trade magazine The Grocer said yesterday: "Bellissimo! The British love affair with Italy's staple food has never been stronger. "
