A STAFFORD Road pub is getting a fresh look and an Italian menu as an experienced restaurant owner moves to town.
Carlo Girometti is set to open the Plough Inn in the next few weeks retaining the English pub feel but offering a choice of affordable Italian food.
The passionate landlord, who previously ran a restaurant and bed-and-breakfast in Ashbourne, is keen to freshen the interior up and give The Plough a new lease of life.
He said: "Italian food will be on the menu as I'm Italian and I've hired an Italian chef.
"There's a lot to do before I open up, I've given myself about three weeks to redcorate.
"I'm planning to open by Mothers Day at the end of the month.
"It needs painting, it needs a good clean and some new decor, a bit of TLC.
"I think it's been neglected for quite some time.
"I'm going to offer affordable Italian dishes including steak, chicken, seafood pasta, bolognese, pizza, that type of thing.
"The menu will change regularly and the Italian chef I have hired will be using fresh, local produce.
"I will offer a choice of English beers and Italian wines.
"The pub will be very family-oriented, I think that's important.
"In the summer we have a lovely garden area which could also do with a bit of work to improve it - I think it's also been neglected in the past.
"My aim is to keep prices competitive.
"I'm very passionate about food and people.
"I think the key to a successful eatery is your attitude.
"A smile doesn't cost anything.
"I'm going to start by giving it a lick of paint, getting some new furniture in, ordering in the beers and deep cleaning the kitchen.
"I think people are willing to travel for a good place to eat and a good atmosphere is essential.
"Having lived in Ashbourne before Uttoxeter, I know I love the area. Before I moved to Staffordshire I worked in London."
And Mr Girometti is not new to hospitality as he has been a restaurant owner for the last six years and worked for a brewery before then.
He said: "The lease was finishing on my old place and I was looking for something new when the opportunity came along for this place.
"I'm looking forward to welcoming old customers back and hopefully attracting new clientele."
