Jamie Oliver to open Brisbane eatery

It's been Brisbane's worst kept secret but the Pacific Restaurant Group has officially confirmed it is opening a Jamie's Italian in the city later this year.

"Jamie's Italian in Brisbane is going to be an eye-opener. It's set to be the largest Jamie's Italian in Australia accommodating up to 240 guests across two levels including a stunning bar area seating up to 80 people," said Adam Heathcote, Pacific Restaurant Group Managing Director.

The group has not confirmed an opening date, stating only that it will open "late in 2014". Chef Jamie Oliver already has outlets of his popular restaurant chain in Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth.

The Brisbane location is the heritage-listed Rowes Arcade building on Edward Street. The building dates from 1885 and was home to the iconic 380-seater Rowes Cafe in the early 20th century.

"The basement level will see the original sandstone walls retained with the fantastic ceiling elevation on the ground floor providing plenty of room to showcase some unique chandeliers," Heathcote said in a statement.

The restaurant will recreate Oliver's "authentic Italian dishes at affordable prices" utilising independent Australian food producers, according to the statement.

The restaurant is currently recruiting staff. Visit jamiesitalian.com.au for details.
